About Me

I have had the privilege of working with youth throughout my career. This includes teaching multiple grade levels in elementary and middle schools. I pursued further education, completed a Master of Education in School Counselling, and fulfilled the requirements to become a Registered Psychologist. For a number of years, I taught special education in the classroom and was the special education and early literacy coordinator for Chinook’s Edge School District for five years. I have thoroughly enjoyed my current position as a counsellor at Central Middle School. Through collaboration, consultation, and continued professional development, I have developed a set of beliefs that have influenced my practice. I would like to share with you. 

I Count: children need to be inspired and accepted for who they are and want to become. They need to feel complete with their unique flaws, strengths, and knowing that they matter.

Connections Count: it can be as simple as a warm smile, a kind word, a cheer, or creating opportunities for kids to be involved in a school activity, club or to be matched with a student or adult mentor, an elder, both within and outside of the school community. Kids need to know that they belong.

 Solutions Count: life is problem solving, counseling is problem solving. Kids have shown us that when there is a problem there are possibilities. Being creative, innovative and solution focused allows for positive change and positive influence.

 I offer individual and  counselling with a focus on learning how to manage and cope with problems by learning cognitive, solution focus,  cognitive behaviour, breathing and mindfulness skills. I will have updated information in the school newsletter.  I recently have taken training in somatic body sensations and look forward to additional training this upcoming year. Last year I was a part of the counselling team that offered staff at RDPSD the Go to Educator Training Program It "provides training in mental health knowledge, literacy, identification and support, and strategies for working with students". I  am excited about working with the students and colleagues at Central Middle School..
