About Me

I am an Australian exchange teacher working at Central Middle School for the 2020 calendar year.  I am appreciating the opportunity to immerse myself in a different school and education system, and to live in a different culture for 12 months. Thanks to the admin, staff and students who have already made me feel so welcome here.  This school year I am teaching mainly English as an Additional Language as well as grade 8 computing.

In Australia I work at the Adelaide Secondary School of English in South Australia, which is a school for newly arrived refugee, migrant and international students.  While there are many differences between our two schools, the energy of the students, and commitment of staff to helping all students achieve their potential have a great deal in common.  As well as teaching, my role in my home school also includes responsibility for student wellbeing and community partnerships and I have a particular interest in how Trauma Informed Practice can support students in schools . Most of my 19 years teaching have been as an EAL teacher in intensive English language programs, and I have taught across grade 2 to 12.

Over the summer, my family and I were able to get out camping and exploring in the mountains, at lakes and in the Badlands.  We have a great appreciation now for just how beautiful and varied Alberta is!

I am looking forward to the next 4 months of working as part of the awesome CMS school community, before I return home at the end of December.
