Central Middle School serves over 600 students in grades 6 to 8. We offer a range of programming for students that includes; main stream English, Early French Immersion, Late French Immersion, and English as a Second Language. The school has a staff that consists of 32 teaching staff plus a strong core of 12 support staff.
Central has a very unique profile which, in fact, makes the entire city our community. The English program within the school serves the communities of Evergreen, Oriole Park, Riverside Meadows, Clearview Ridge, Timberlands and the City Central core areas. For our French Immersion programs, the late and early immersion students come from all areas of the city as we are the designated French Immersion middle school for Red Deer Public. Central is also the designated ELL (English Language Learners) middle school for Red Deer Public, as such we serve the entire city for this program as well.
Our profile provides our school with a very unique mix of students from in and around Red Deer and makes it a great place for students of all backgrounds to learn and meet new people.
Message From the Principal:
Hello Central Cyclone families!
Welcome to Central Middle School. I am very pleased to be the principal of Central for the 2024-25 school year! Myself, Mr. Archer, and Mr. Henry are excited about the opportunities that this coming year will bring including academics, athletics, art & music, as well as many clubs and extracurricular activities. You will find middle school to be an exciting and dynamic environment that offers something for everyone who attends our school. We are proud of all of the different options, classes and clubs available to the students at CMS.
Central is a dedicated middle school that houses Grades 6, 7 & 8. CMS offers English as well as French Immersion, and we are the designated school for many English Language Learners. We also offer the SportFit (Sports Academy) program. Our community population is diverse and students attend from all around the City of Red Deer. Our student population this year is approximately 610.
There are many supports for students at CMS, including our counsellor (Ms. Diletzoy), our Family School Liaison Counsellor (Ms. Crosbie), our Learning Assistance Teacher (Ms. Moraal), two student support rooms (Ms. McPhedran and Ms. Seely), and our daily breakfast program.
Please take time to keep up on our school communications. These are available in the following forms:
- The Central Middle School website is full of great information and we would ask that you check the website often for news and updates.
- We use “School Messenger” on a regular basis to send important and timely information to parents.
- Please be sure to read our weekly newsletter, the "Cyclone Scope." All Central families will receive a weekly email on Sundays with the newsletter attached. This is our primary mode of communicating important announcements and event information to parents and we hope you stay updated on what's going on in our school.
- Follow our school Instagram account, @cmscyclones
- Our staff is available by their school email and by phone.
We are excited to begin a new school year, and we look forward to seeing you all around our school!
Sincerely,
Ms. Amanda Wilson
Principal
